Mission Of Mercy “Changes Lives” In Oklahoma, NBC Reports
In a broadcast on its website, NBC News, February 16, reported the annual Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, which “changes lives” for the needy. It took place Feb. 1-2 at the Oklahoma Expo Hall at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
“For thousands of Oklahomans,” receiving care at the free two-day clinic “is like hitting the jackpot,” NBC said. Furthermore noting that some people waited “in line for days” for the opportunity to see a dentist at the clinic. Oklahoma Dental Association President Dr. Shannon Griffin said that many people see a lack of dental coverage as a barrier to receiving care. “Over ten years, indeed, the non-profit Mission of Mercy changes lives for it has treated more than 16,000 patients and donated more than $12 million in free dental care,” NBC reported. “The organization changes lives for those in need, especially for young kids.” Nearly 2,000 volunteers help make the event possible each year.

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, February 18, reports that Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh will take place July 26-27 at PPG Paints Arena. For this reason volunteers are needed for the event. The article reports that “last year, 133 area dentists took part among hundreds of volunteers,”. Under those circumstances, “more than 1,100 patients showed up to receive free cleanings, fillings, root canals, dentures and, oral surgery on a first-come, first-served basis.”
