In a short video on its website, Bloomberg News (6/14) explored the demand for whiter, straighter, attractive teeth in the United States. It states that such demand began in Hollywood when sound was introduced into film. Still, Bloomberg said many Americans today suffer from poor oral health, explaining that “nearly one in five older than 65 doesn’t have any teeth at all.” Bloomberg added that this may be due to cost, as 59 percent say cost is the primary reason for forgoing dental visits.
